Mark my words, Droqen is a name to watch for in the indie game scene. I’ve only seen two of his games so far, but he has excellent pixel handling skills, a good sense of atmosphere, and does those well enough that story isn’t entirely necessary as of yet.
He made the Excellent FISHBANE, which I still have yet to complete.
Here’s the game he finished yesterday for Ludum Dare #18 (a game making competition in which you have 48 hours to make a game). The theme of this competition was “enemies as weapons”. Undermine.
Collected today from the library:
Looking for Jake by China Miéville. A collection of short stories.
The Brothers Karamozov, by Fyodor Dostoevsky. A serial novel.
Akira, by Katsuhiro Otomo. A serial comic.
The two serial books are classics. The short stories are very hit or miss, but are good summer fare.
I already have “the Geography of Time” on my shelf, which I will finish first.
All in all this is a little more than I like to read at once, but fortunately the libraries furlough is at the end of this month, and all these books have extended lives for that time.
Are kids today acting younger for longer?
I arrived at this article from the WSJ by way of this reddit post which is interesting in it’s own right (perhaps more so than the actual article).
All of which reminds me of a great review by Brendan Kiley from the Stranger a few weeks ago about “the Regressors“. This review made a name for itself in one circle of my friends, so I might as well make it available to you as well.
In case you haven’t already picked up on this (didn’t think to post this until it had already blown up) Justin Bieber’s “U Smile” makes an incredibly legit and enjoyable ambient track when slowed down 800%.
The original:
And now:
800% slower, on soundcloud.
Sometimes I talk about suddenly craving curry, and my search to find it (last night on facebook).
Sometimes I just want to say where I am, so you can come visit if you want, or ask me if dinner at Palace Kitchen was good. (today on foursquare)
Sometimes I want to talk about my struggles as an artist, or mention the heat, or something else. (??? and occasionally stonekite.net)
I think it makes sense to split all this different information into different threads of communication. This scheme provides two benefits:
That way I will be able to write more, and you will be able to choose what subjects you want to read about.
Right now I’m thinking of 4 streams.
stonekite.net (possibly revamped)
For things about me personally. Or things that I am thinking about that don’t fit elsewhere.
An art blog for art I’m working on, and the frustration and triumphs of learning umpteen different methods all at once.
Possibly Twitter, for random things. And double posted on twitter and on facebook if I feel like it.
Possibly Foursquare, for where I am.
Trying to do prints in 90º+ temperatures has resulted in unsatisfactory results. The ink dries up too quickly.
I’ll wait until the weather gets into the seventies.
